International Day of Rural Women

The United Nations’ (UN) International Day of Rural Women celebrates the role of rural women on October 15 every year, recognizing the role of rural women in enhancing agricultural and rural development. On this day, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon underlined in his message that rural women are a force that can significantly contribute to the overall development and thus to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, adopting a new vision for sustainable development. To take advantage of this force it is necessary an increasing desire for collaboration and supporting them in the activities they carry out. The first International Day of Rural Women was celebrated on October 15, 2008.

In Romania, there have been many events in which rural women are in the center of attention like the rural fairs and festivals that celebrate the Romanian village days, harvests and also the peasant habits. Tourists who come to Romania around these events have the opportunity to participate and live a few days in the middle of the Romanian traditions, so appreciated by all of us.
